Introduction

The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories (AS AB/NT) shows us every day that the right support at the right time can make a profound difference in the lives of people living with dementia and their care partners. But the positive impact of their work grows even stronger when communities are ready to respond with understanding and action.

By completing Sessions 1-4 of this course, you’ve taken meaningful steps towards becoming an ally for people living with dementia and their care partners. You’ve learned how to build relationships, notice and respond to needs, and create environments and interactions that are more understanding, respectful, and supportive.

But Dementia Supportive Communities grow fastest and strongest when knowledge is shared, conversations continue, and more people feel confident taking small, supportive actions in everyday spaces.

This final session focuses on amplifying your impact by sharing what you’ve learned, inviting others to get involved, and helping people living with dementia in your community to get the support they need earlier and more easily. Whether you’re talking with a colleague, a neighbour, a customer, or a decision-maker: your voice matters.

In this session, you’ll explore:

  • The services available through AS AB/NT
  • How to talk about Dementia Supportive Communities in clear, approachable ways and share what you or your organization is doing
  • How to include people living with dementia in shaping, evaluating, and strengthening your Dementia Supportive Community efforts
  • Practical next steps to stay involved and help the Dementia Supportive Communities initiative  grow and strengthen
